Royal North Devon is historically the oldest golf course in England and has been generating excellent golfers for years, including the great John Henry Taylor who went on to form the foundations of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA).
At Royal North Devon we make Junior development a priority and due to this we have already 100 junior members, making us the largest junior section in Devon.
The Professionals at the club, Iain Parker, Mike Wilson and Dan Wood work actively with the Junior members providing coaching sessions on saturdays and Sundays with the aim of producing 2-3 County standard players each year and maybe even better.
Two coaching sessions take place on Saturday mornings for an hour each between the following times:
0930 - 1030 1100 - 1200
Sunday morning coaching takes place at 1000 - 1100
The cost is £2 per child
The Professionals also work actively with the council and the local schools to introduce golf to the wider regional community.
In June 2005 a 9 hole Par 3 course called "Pimpley Ground" was introduced with the aim of encouraging juniors to play and enjoy golf whilst focussing from 75 yards on their short games and developing touch and feel,
Pimpley Ground has already been fantastic in maintaining the interest of the juniors and this can only increase.
Last year the junior team won the North Devon Junior League competing against six other clubs, so it's apparent that the new Pimpley Ground facility had already helped the Junior section to progress.
The Club with the help of the Golf Foundation's initiatives, aims to maximise the achievements of the Juniors by allowing them to participate in challenges that test them in all areas of the game.
