Fore please....

As of next month our weekly email newsletter
will be changing. The standard newsletter that
we do on the club website will be staying the
same with all of the club news, results, and
info. However this will come through to you
bi-weekly.

The new newsletter that we will be sending out
will be done in conjunction with our buying
group foremost. Some of you may remember that
we used this initially 4 years ago when we first
started doing a club newsletter. It has since
improved markedly so we have decided to start
running it again. This communication will focus
more on your golf and your equipment, as well as
allowing you to take part in online competitions,
poles and also allow you to buy things that we
may not have in the shop online through the foremost
buying group.

We are hopeful that this change will be an added
member benefit and improve the services that the
golf shop provides.

For now, enjoy this weeks newsletter, and we look forward
to seeing you all soon.....

Yellow ball results.

This weekends Yellow ball team event was won by

a trio consisitng of my favourite landlord;

Graham Stone (Beever Inn Appledore) Andy Weir and

Steve Sherry who had a short game lesson from Mike the

day before. The trio won by a single point from Dale and Ollie
Tanton and Kate Brown who is also having lessons
from mike.

The conditions were wet & cold but with the yellow ball

counting double, scoring was going to be very high

(until you lost it and then you had had it!)

The winners had 141 points with all 3 scores
to count on every hole. They were helped by making a 15 point
score on the 13th hole with Steve Sherry making a birdie
with the yellow ball. This was a great result for a team who

10minutes before they were due to tee off were pretty sure

they weren't going to play because of the persistent rain.

Well done to all of the placed teams!

How to play RND

Sponsored by Sonocaddie GPS Systems

This week i'm going to show you the most consistant
way to putt the ball onto some of the raised greens
we have here at the club.

With many of our greens being raised it is almost
a given that you will have to putt up and onto one
or more of them in a round.
I find the 13th green hardest to judge but here are
a couple of tips that may help you.

* Firstly you may notice that the ground slopes
slightly down before raising up. It is essential for
a good result that you don't try to help the ball up
when you hit it. This will lift the ball off the ground
slightly and it will pitch into the slope taking away
a lot of the balls speed and possibly knocking it off line.

For best results the ball should hug the ground all of the
way from impact to where it finishes. This will get the
ball running up the slope much more efficiently and reduce
the risk that it will end up back at your feet!

* The second tip is for when you have to putt your ball
slightly accross and up the slope. 99% of people dont allow
enough borrow on these shots and the ball simply doesn't get
up onto the green. Allow 50% more borrow than you think. If
you over do it you will still be on the green!

Good luck!

Golf Pro's tip of the week

Many amateurs I come across tend to want to putt the ball
from way off the green. This can work, but if you play
a parkland course this can be inconsistent at best. If there
are no hazards in your way then the club you should use to
‘punt' the ball onto the green should be your rescue club or
5/7 wood. This will get the ball air bourn enough to carry
some of the rougher ground and will then run up onto the green.
5 minutes practice is all it takes to get good at this.

Happy Golfing
