Dress Code at Royal North Devon Golf Club The General Committee have considered and discussed this difficult and emotive issue at length on many occasions. Information from other golf clubs suggest that there are continuing problems in defining and maintaining an acceptable code.
Economic necessity mean that clubs are opening their facilities to non-golfers and changing fashions have meant that it has become increasingly difficult to specify exactly what is acceptable and what is not. Designer jeans, collarless shirts and trainers are everyday examples of the very much more casually dressed society in which we live.
The use of facilities to accommodate weddings and other social functions means that members of the public are frequenting our bar and restaurant areas more than in the past. It has also to be remembered that we are in a holiday area.
Therefore the Committee propose to adopt a more relaxed approach to the subject and introduce the following code with immediate effect:
DINING/SOCIAL ROOMS: Clean, tidy and smart appearance at all times. Tailored SHORTS are acceptable at any time during the months May to September inclusive.
PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES: VESTS, T-SHIRTS WITH ADVERTISING, TRACKSUITS, CAPS, BEACHWARE. NO GOLF SHOES OF ANY KIND.
If you feel that someone in the Clubhouse is inappropriately dressed please advise the Secretary, Bar Steward or a member of the Committee.
If none of these are available and you feel you should approach the person then please be polite and avoid confrontation.
