On Sunday the 9th July Royal North Devon men’s matchplay squad travelled to St Mellion to play in their 3rd round of the Annodata Matchplay series and take on the challenge of the famously difficult Nicklaus course in the swirling wind. The RNDGC 140 veterans raised £1578 in 2022 during their weekly competitions and Open Day.Patrick McGuckin this year's elected Captain stated during their AGM that he had felt privileged to have been the section's Captain during a successful year during which veteran golfers won all of their home matches against visiting clubs. In their own words from Paula and Liz: What a most fantastic experience! We won the first round against Craigie Hill, Perth, Scotland 3/1. In the quarter finals we had to give 16 shots to a pair from South Staffs. They had reached the finals on two previous occasions and beat us 3/1. They went on to play two girls from Dumfries Golf Club in the final. Congratulations to Andy and Michelle Fenge from RND who triumphed in the 2022 Bideford Bay Foursomes. On Saturday we had a 3ball team (2-1-2) competition, the first "adult" competition for New Golfer and new member young Harry Armstrong (age 15), playing with his father Neil and famous local celebrity Shaun Loze !! This was only the 5th time Harry has played all 18 holes and 3 of these were to enable him to get his handicap. The 2019 home match VS Weston Super-Mare was another spectacular affair! Some excellent golf from both teams, as Weston brought 8 out of 12 single figure golfers and no one higher than 13. Home advantage was just enough though as RND fortunately took a 5-1 lead in the morning 4BBB to be pegged back with a 3-3 half in the afternoon Greensomes. The 2019 August meeting came to a close on Friday evening with the presentation of all the trophies for the last year. There were lots of very happy golfers ! Friday marked the first home game of the Sheelah Creasy Bowl, a Devon ladies singles match play competition for handicaps 21-36. It was a chilly start but it soon warmed up with a light wind. The course proved a step too far for the Exeter ladies who found the tight lies, bunkers and rushes galore a tough call. Sunday the 6th January saw the annual Officers Installation Ceremony after The Lowis Cup Greensomes.
